Cizhuping Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Central Sichuan (Leshan). The Cizhuping Fm was named by Yang Xianhe in 1978. The reference section is in Suxiong, Ganluo County, Sichuan Province. Uppermost formation in the Ebian Gr.
Synonym: (茨竹坪组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Cizhuping Fm consists mainly of meta-sedimentary clastic rocks sandwiched with metamorphosed intermediate-acid volcaniclastic rocks. In general the lower part is more coarse-grained, mainly composed of medium- to fine-grained quartz sandstone, intercalated with some meta-conglomerate, carbonaceous slate and schist; upward it changes into meta-sandy slate, interbedded with schist and phyllite, sandwiched or interbedded with intermediate-acid meta-tuff. The thickness of the formation varies from 400 to 1800 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base is conformable onto the underlying Lanbaoping Fm.
Upper contact
The top is unconformably overlain by the Suxiong Fm of late Qingbaikouan (middle Tonian)
Regional extent
Central Sichuan (Leshan). The formation is mainly distributed in areas from Wangyinping to Laoyingzui, Ebian County and in Ganluo, Suxiong and Jinyang, Sichuan Province.

Fossils
The phyllite yields rich microplants: Trachysphaeridium, Asperatopsophosphaera, Pseudozonosphaera, Polynucella, Leiopsophosphaeridium and Quadratimorpha.
